Kitchen Remodeling:
Planning Your New Kitchen
As many experts agree, remodeling and upgrading your kitchen is one of the most recommended ways to increase property value. This goal can be achieved with minimum effort and expense and still provide you with a better looking, more functional kitchen.
To achieve greater value increases, you might want to consider a complete kitchen remodeling project, incorporating contemporary cabinetry, stainless steel trendy appliances, and an eating area for the family to gather over dinner.
Planning
As with every remodeling project, planning makes perfect and it is the key to achieving successful results. Successful results are, of course, a factor of your lifestyle and specific requirement. You will have to adjust and plan a kitchen that can fit well into your home.
The four important factors that must be considered are:
Size
Your new kitchen must be proportional to the size of your home. If you live in a small bachelor apartment, you will have to consider smaller appliances to allow you to make the most of the available space.
Floor plan
If your floor plan allows it, try to conceal the cooking area with doors or curtains when it is not in use. In larger homes, an open kitchen might be a better choice to enhance the size of the home and create a spacious feeling.
Number of Occupants
Larger families prefer larger kitchens with a working space, large enough to accommodate more than one person, working in the kitchen. If you have kids, be sure that eating spaces are located safely away from the gas range or sink.
Eating Habits
If you prefer eating in the kitchen, and /or dont have a dining room, take this fact into consideration when planning your new kitchen. You will need to dedicate space to a dining area.
Layout
The second phase of a kitchen remodeling project is the layout, the way you want evert tool or furniture to be placed. Basic kitchen layouts include space for storage, preparation area, sink, stove/oven, and eating.
The basic rules are:
- Place the stove, refrigerator, sink, and work-top no more than a step from each other.
- Placeabel all the often-used equipment within an arm's reach of the stove.
Hire a Professional
Planning and designing a new kitchen is not a task for a novice. If you are not experienced doing that, it is recommended that you hire a professional designer. If you are hiring a home improvement company to remodel your kitchen, consult your project manager and ask to work with a professional designer or architect.
Be sure to explain your desires to the designer and work with him on a step-by-step basis to turn your dream kitchen to reality. Although this service may increase your expense, it is usually worth every penny as the outcome will be just what you imagine but still planned and executed by a pro.
