Home Remodeling: Building a Deck
Outdoor living is a favorite leisure in Los Angeles, California. As most of the year the climate allows to enjoy comfortable days and nights outdoors, more and more home owners are turning their backyards into a great deck, a great outdoors spot to just sit and relax.
Building a deck is not a complex home improvement project and if you choose your remodeling company wisely, it can be completed within days and with not too much hustle. Comparing to a room addition project, adding a deck to your house is cheaper but still has a great impact on the property's resale value.
While some home owners choose to build a deck as a do-it-yourself project, many prefer to hire a professional contractor for the task. The advantage of having a contractor on your side is significant as your home improvement company will deal with the project from a-z, making it a complete hustle free experience for you.
Another good reason to hire a home improvement company is the fact that you will be able to get all the advice and design ideas from an experience person who must have seen and build many decks before yours. This will expose you to all current trends, technologies, and available options.
Step 1: Planning
Like every home remodeling project, building a deck requires careful planning and design. Think where do you want the deck, what will be its size, will you need any demolition to make room for your desired deck.
As you plan, think about the functionality of the deck. If it will be facing the sun, consider a gazebo or other kind of shading. Some consider an electric roof to cover the deck during rainy days.
Step 2: Planning, Blueprints, and Permits
Convert your plans into a blueprint and have it approved by local authorities. Approving the blueprints will assure you that your deck will be built according to building codes and regulation. Once approved, you will be issued a building permit.
Step 3: Budget
Once your plans are approved, revise your budget. Calculate the costs of labor and materials. Be sure to keep a 10% margins incase you will be faced with unexpected expenses during the project.
Step 4: Get to Work
Once you approve your budget, start the work. Be sure to monitor the progress closely and check your budget in every phase of the project. This will allow you to prevent avoid any deviations from your budget and schedule.
