Dining Room Remodeling
By Ben Shabat
The dining room is one of the rooms where you get together with your family and friends. Remodeling your dining room can add some spice to your day to day life, allowing you to rejuvenate the room and create a room where family and friends will love to gather.
Colors
Colors give a room a unique touch. An ugly color makes a room unattractive and you will often prefer to spend your time in a different room. Even if painted plain white, a dining room provides no direction and becomes "just another room".
Be brave; consider replacing the safe wall colors of white, off-white, or ivory, with a tangy orange citrus color, a sky blue, or even warm red colors. These colors will give the room an attractive uniqueness, making the room more special and appealing.
Other aspects of color combination include the colors of your floor. If the floor is in good condition and you don't want to do any remodeling changed to it, use it as the color basis for your design.
For example, if you have a dark wood floor, think of colors that will work well with that color. A darker color for the wall will add a dramatic motif to the room. To create lighter atmosphere, consider a contrasting color, in this case a light color.
Existing Fixtures
Use the existing fixtures of the room to enhance or hide certain characteristics. If you like the view from your window, enhance it by removing curtains and making the view a part of your design.
If there are any molding that you like and want to preserve, enhance these moldings using color and illumination that will draw more attention to the molding. On the other hand, if your moldings are not attractive, consider removing them or drawing attention away from them.
Furniture
A dining room usually features a dining table. Select your furniture wisely, keeping in mind that the dining table is the center of attention. Consider hiding the table with a coverall map or enhancing it with a smaller map.
Placing a rug underneath the dining table will provide something soft underfoot and will also helped absorbing sound in a big boxy space. Try exiting rugs that will add to the room characteristics.
